Place marker 에

에 operates like 'in' or 'at' in English when talking about someone/something being somewhere in a static state. Note, however, that not 에 but 에서 is used when talking about someone/something performing a dynamic action in a certain place.

  • 우리는 교실 있어요.
    We're in the classroom.

  • 민호가 학교 없어요.
    Minho is not at school.

  • 유리는 바닥 앉았고 유미는 소파 누웠어요.
Yuri sat on the floor and Yumi lay one the sofa.

  • 이모는 캐나다 살아요.
    My aunt lives in Canada.

Note that '살다(to live)' may appear with 에 as in the last example, but may also appear with the 'dynamic' marker 에서.
